Down the TBR Hole #12

DOWN THE TBR HOLE

This was started by Lia from Lost In A Story and instructions are:

Anyway, it works like this:

  • Go to your goodreads to-read shelf.
  • Order on ascending date added.
  • Take the first 5 (or 10 if you’re feeling adventurous) books
  • Read the synopses of the books
  • Decide: keep it or should it go?

The fact that I (you?) will be repeating this process every week means that I have to keep track of where I ended and where I’m going to continue. E.g. in week one I do book 1 – 5, in week two book 6 – 10, and so on, until I’ve filtered out my entire TBR.

My TBR Selections for this week are…

11468074

Renegade (The Elysium Chronicles #1) by J. A. Souders

I am not sure about this one. It sounds interesting. Perhaps I will pick it up one day…But I honestly see it at the bottom of my list…

Final Verdict: It goes. /

10586539

Wake (The Watersong Quartet #1) by Amanda Hocking

This one I am just not feeling anymore. Simple as that.

Final Verdict: It goes.

17802724

The Husband’s Secret by Laine Moriarty

I have heard good things about Laine Moriarty and feel like I should give her a shot. I see some positive reviews of this book by people I trust.

Final Verdict: It stays.

8428195

Entwined by Heather Dixon

I don’t see myself reading this one right away. I think if I am going to read a fairy tale retelling, the I should probably pick one of a fairy tale I know and I don’t really know the Twelve Dancing Princesses.

Final Verdict: It goes.

21525975

Burning by Danielle Rollins

Once again….I am just not feeling this one any more

Final Verdict: It goes.

Goodness! I am only keeping one book this week! Am I in a clean out mood or what?!

Thanks for reading!

Monstrous Beauty by Elizabeth Fama

I love mermaids…I wish I was a mermaid…so I am all about this book!

Final Verdict: It stays.

21936937

Blackhearts (Blackhearts #1) by Nicole Castorman

I grew up in North Carolina and in school the taught us about the history of the state and that included Black Beard. So this one really interests me. I am so excited to see what was taught to me when I was young be put into a story.

Final Verdict: It stays.

25733660

The Forbidden Wish by Jessica Khoury

While this one does sound interesting, a reviewer I trust said that she came out of this book expecting more epic things… So I think I am going to trust her.

Final Verdict: It goes.

17332556

The Burning Sky by Sherry Thomas

I do love a good fantasy novel.

Final Verdict: It stays.

8306761

For Darkness Shows the Stars (For Darkness Shows the Stars #1) by Diana Peterfreund

This is sounding to me like it would be similar to the Winner’s trilogy. Not in the actual story, but in the execution. The description says that it is inspired by Persuasion by Jane Austen, so maybe I will read that and then read this.

Final Verdict: It stays.

Thanks for reading!

My TBR Selections for this week are…

23430471

Riders by Veronica Rossi

As I read Gone with the Wind, my interest in War has sparked. I normally don’t have much want to read about wars, but seeing the war strategy and how it has affected those not fighting, I find it intriguing.

Final Verdict: It stays.

21414439

Truthwitch by Susan Dennard

I have heard such good things about this and I currently have it on my shelf.

Final Verdict: It stays.

Another thriller…what was I thinking when I added these? I don’t really like them!

Down the TBR Hole #9

Each week I am amazed at my ability to keep this up! 9 weeks of sorting through my TBR list! I’m so proud of myself!

My TBR Selections for this week are...

20821111

The Young Elites (The Young Elites #1) by Marie Lu
Marie Lu’s Legend was on my list last week and it stayed on my TBR. So assuming I enjoy that trilogy, I will read this one. Until a point at which I find out I don’t like it, this stays.

Final Verdict: It stays.

17675462

The Raven Boys (The Raven Cycle #1) by Maggie Stiefvater
I started listening to The Raven Boys at one point in time but it was back when I was just getting into audiobooks. I did not really understand what was going on, so I stopped. I have since listened to many more audiobooks and I believe I will give this one another shot!

Final Verdict: It Stays.

28119313

Serafina and the Twisted Staff (Serafina #2) by Robert Beaty
I am so disappointed in myself for not having read this one yet! I live pretty close to the Biltmore house and I absolutely love it. It is so much fun reading novels that take place at a place I have visited and when I go back, I can just imagine Serafina throughout the house. I will definitely read this one!

Final Verdict: It stays.

22428707

The Great Hunt (Eurona Duology #1) by Wendy Higgins
I am on the fence about this one. I think it could be really enjoyable. Maybe I will keep it on the list in case I get in the mood for a retelling. If you have read it, let me know your thoughts.

Final Verdict: It Stays

26114463

Nevernight (The Nevernight Chornicle #1) by Jay Kristoff
Fantasy. Vengence. Assasins. YES!

Final Verdict: It stays.

As usual, let me know if you have read any of these and thanks for reading!

Down the TBR Hole #8

Well…you know how it goes…so let’s get into it!

This was started by Lia from Lost In A Story and instructions are:

Anyway, it works like this:

  • Go to your goodreads to-read shelf.
  • Order on ascending date added.
  • Take the first 5 (or 10 if you’re feeling adventurous) books

My TBR Selections for this week are...

8694522

The Witch’s Daughter (Shadow Chronicles #1) by Paula Brackston
Reading through this, I had to read it a couple of times to decide. I just don’t think this sounds like something I am super interested in.

Final Verdict: It goes.

54340

Hitler’s Neice by Ron Hansen
This book interests me. I would like to read more historical fiction, specifically WW2. However, I am nervous to read the fiction part of it. For example, this book supposedly goes into Hitler’s whole progression to power, but how much is true. Perhaps this will just be more insight to Hitler’s mind.

Final Verdict: It stays.

18693763

Everything I Never Told You by Celeste Ng
This is one of those books that would be branching out of my normal scope of selections. I am questioning it, but I am still interested. My library has the audiobook on the app, so I think I will leave it and listen to it one day.

Final Verdict: It stays.

18243700

The Assassin’s Blade (Throne of Glass Novellas) by Sarah J. Maas
This one is a no brainer! Of course I am going to read this! I am ashamed I haven’t yet.

Final Verdict: It stays.

9275658

Legend (Legend #1) by Marie Lu
A friend has told me to check these out and after reading the description, I think there is some potential.

Final Verdict: It stays.

Thanks for reading! xoxo

Down the TBR Hole #5

Goodness! I cannot believe I have kept up with this for 5 weeks! Ok, maybe 6 because I may have missed a week, but still! Anyways, let’s see what I have this week!

This was started by Lia from Lost In A Story and instructions are:

Anyway, it works like this:

  • Go to your goodreads to-read shelf.
  • Order on ascending date added.
  • Take the first 5 (or 10 if you’re feeling adventurous) books

My TBR Selections for this week are…

10920

Cold Mountain by Charles Frazier
This is the story about a Civil War soldier’s journey back home. As I have read many books since this was added and in turn have learned a little about my reading tastes…I have learned that I don’t particularly like “journey” stories.

Final Verdict: It goes.

12425532

Of Poseidon by Anna Banks
I feel like this could be super cheesy, but it has good reviews. I think my library has this on audio My library has the sequel and the last one…but not the first. What kind of crap is this. Since it is not an audiobook, sadly, I probably won’t read it.

Final Verdict: It goes.

8490112.jpg

Daughter of Smoke and Bone by Laini Taylor
This sounds very interesting and different. I think I could enjoy it, but the hype makes me nervous. I think I want to try it though, because I have heard good things about Laini Taylor. Maybe I will try Strange the Dreamer first? Let me know your thoughts!

Final Verdict: It stays.

17383917

The Screwtape Letters by C.S. Lewis
This is one that I think will make me grow as a person. And it is one that someone I think very highly of has recommended to me. I feel I need to read it for her.

Final Verdict: It stays.

1079914

Rhett Butler’s People by Donald McCaig
I bought this one with intentions of reading it post Gone with the Wind read. However, I have not read GWTW. Maybe one day, when I finally get to GWTW, I will read it. But for now…

Final Verdict: It goes.

7833099.jpg

Fallen by Lauren Kate
Honestly, I am just feeling nothing after reading the synopsis on Goodreads.

Final Verdict: It goes.

Well, 5 is all I am feeling today. So I guess that is a wrap!

Thanks for reading!

Down the TBR Hole #4

Hello all! Thanks for coming to see what books I may or may not keep on my TBR!

12476820

Partials by Dan Wells
Honestly, I feel like I have read this before and I don’t see myself picking it up over some others.

Final Verdict: It goes

17701160

Aberrant by Ruth Silver
This sounds very similar to Delirium by Lauren Oliver, which I really enjoyed but I am not sure I want to read it again.

Final Verdict: It goes

17399160

Snow Like Ashes by Sara Raasch
I am just not sure about this one. It sounds like the plot line could be similar to that of the Falling Kingdoms series. However, my library has this on the audio book app so I will leave it and give it a shot one day.

Final Verdict: It stays

5470

1984 by George Orwell
I have read listened to most of this book. I own a copy and have full intentions of finishing it. I suppose until I do finish it, it will stay on my list.

Final Verdict: It stays

2657

To Kill A Mockingbird by Harper Lee
I know I should be ashamed I haven’t read this yet. But in all fairness, most people read it in school and my classes just didn’t. I have a copy on my shelf and have all intentions of reading it.

Final Verdict: It stays

18133

Lolita by Vladimir Nabokov
I have never read anything quite like this and I think one day I will reach for it…it just might take a specific mood.

Final Verdict: It stays

38447

The Handmaid’s Tale by Margaret Atwood
I know this has been made into a series and I have no intentions of watching it. I am interested in the book because it was recommended by a friend that I trust.

Final Verdict: It stays

5129

Brave New World by Aldous Huxley
Judging strictly by the summary, I think this has potential to make me view life differently. I want to give it a try.

Final Verdict: It stays

343

Perfume by Patrick Suskind
I am just not sure this one is for me. While I don’t mind killing and murders in the midst of other things, I don’t know if I am ready for a book all about it. I am going to take this off the list, but keep it in the back of my mind in case I one day I want to try a murder book.

Final Verdict: It goes.

2815590

Serena by Ron Rash
I am on the fence about this one. I really am intrigued by power hungry, ruthless female characters. BUT the reviews mention cruelty to animals and I am not sure I would be able to handle that. I tried to read Traveller by Richard Adams once and I couldn’t get past the first few pages because of the suffering for the horse. I guess I will leave it. I can always stop reading if I can’t handle it.

Final Verdict: It stays.

Let me know your thoughts if you have read any of these!

xoxo
