The High School Book Tag

Thank you so much Read with Katie for tagging me!

The Rules:

A+ ON THE TEST: A BOOK OR CHARACTER THAT MAKES YOU SMILE

17927395

A Court of Mist and Fury (ACOTAR #2) by Sarah J. Maas

Oh. My. Goodness. This book. I love it so much and I can’t help but smile every time I read it. The dynamics. The slow burn romance. And then there is Rhysand. Good hearted dreamer in the monster’s mask. *le sigh*

SPORTS TEAM: A FICTIONAL FAMILY THAT YOU WANT TO BE PART OF?

23766634

A Court of Wings and Ruin (ACOTAR #3) by Sarah J. Maas

The inner circle is my ultimate squad goals. They stick up for each other, push each other to grow, love each other unconditionally, joke with infinite amounts of sarcasm. What more could you want in your family.

CLASS PRESIDENT: A BOOK THAT TRIES TO MAKE A DIFFERENCE

30653853

The Upside of Unrequited by Becky Albertalli

This adorable novel attacks many issues, like body image and homosexuality. I left this book with such a warm feeling about love and my body. Albertalli makes you feel like everyone and body is beautiful and it is ok to love yourself and whoever you want.

HIGH SCHOOL SWEET HEART: A BOOK CHARACTER YOU HAVE A CRUSH ON

17927395

A Court of Mist and Fury (ACOTAR #2) by Sarah J. Maas

Rhysand! Rhysand! Rhysand! Rhysand! Rhysand!
Rhysand! Rhysand! Rhysand! Rhysand! Rhysand!
Rhysand! Rhysand! Rhysand! Rhysand! Rhysand!
Rhysand! Rhysand! Rhysand! Rhysand! Rhysand!
Rhysand! Rhysand! Rhysand! Rhysand! Rhysand!
Rhysand! Rhysand! Rhysand! Rhysand! Rhysand!

PROM NIGHT: A BOOK WITH A BEAUTIFUL COVER

25817407

The Siren by Kiera Cass

<<<<<<< This. Cover.

SPRING BREAK: A BOOK YOU CAN ALWAYS TURN TO WHEN YOU NEED AN ESCAPE

3

Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone (Harry Potter #1) by J.K. Rowling

This entire series is the perfect definition of an escape. You can run away to an alternate world where there are wizards and magic. I feel like no matter what, entering the world of Harry Potter makes you feel less alone. Hogwarts will always be home.

SCHOOL LUNCH: A book character(s) you want to have lunch with?

6202661I Heart New York (I Heart #1) by Lindsey Kelk

Angela Clark has so much drama. I think it would be fun to have lunch with her and Jenny. Both of them are so different from me, I think it would be a good time.

HALLOWEEN PARTY: A BOOK CHARACTER YOU WOULD LIKE TO BE FOR A DAY

16034235

Throne of Glass (Throne of Glass #1) by Sarah J. Maas

I think it would be so much fun to be the beautiful, ass-kicking Celaena. She seriously is my spirit animal (well a combination of her and Feyre). I love how she doesn’t take shit from anyone, but she still has a good heart and tries to do what is right. I would seriously dress up as her for Halloween but I don’t think my friends would get the reference.

SCHOOL BULLY: A VILLAIN YOU DON’T WANT TO GO TO SCHOOL WITH

12954620.jpg

Falling Kingdoms (Falling Kingdoms #1) by Morgan Rhodes

Gaius is a character that I would NOT like to encounter. The bloodthirsty, ruthless king that is all kinds of twisted in the head really needs his ass handed to him on a silver platter. I don’t know how this series end, but I hope it is something similar to that!

GRADUATION: A BOOK WITH A BITTERSWEET CONCLUSION

7260188

Mockingjay (The Hunger Games #3) by Suzanne Collins

While we are glad the games are over, we are sad that so many had to die.

Down the TBR Hole #6

Happy Saturday! Let’s see what my TBR selections are this week!

This was started by Lia from Lost In A Story and instructions are:

Anyway, it works like this:

  • Go to your goodreads to-read shelf.
  • Order on ascending date added.
  • Take the first 5 (or 10 if you’re feeling adventurous) books
  • Read the synopses of the books
  • Decide: keep it or should it go?

The fact that I (you?) will be repeating this process every week means that I have to keep track of where I ended and where I’m going to continue. E.g. in week one I do book 1 – 5, in week two book 6 – 10, and so on, until I’ve filtered out my entire TBR.

My TBR Selections for this week are…

The Kiss of Deception (Book 1 of The Remnant Chronicles) by Mary E. Pearson
This sounds so good and I have it one my shelf waiting to be read!

Final verdict: It stays!

Vanishing Girls by Lauren Oliver
Honestly, I am not a psychological thriller kind of person. I just don’t see this getting read any time soon.

Final Verdict: It goes.

We All Looked Up by Tommy Wallach
I don’t know how this ended up on my shelf. I suppose at some point thought it sounded good but now so much any more.

Final Verdict: It goes.

Walk on Earth a Stranger (The Gold Seer Trilogy #1) by Rae Carson
This sounds so different from what I have read before. I am wondering if it reads like historical fiction? I rather enjoy books like that.

Final Verdict: It Stays.

City of Savages by Lee Kelly
So upon first reading the summary, I thought that is was just another dystopian and I am rather tired of those….they all just seem the same! But once I skimmed the reviews, there were multiple people that mentioned this focus’ more on psychological aspects, which sounds interesting (even though I had just said a few books up that I am not a psycological thriller person…maybe I can start!)

Final Verdict: It stays.

So as usual…Please let me know if you have read any of these and what your thoughts are!

Thanks for reading!

Comic Explosion! – May 2017 Owlcrate Box

Well, I guess since Owlcrate posted a picture on Instagram, it is safe to share my May box!

I was pleasantly surprised by this. Ok, normally I am not a big superhero fan. I mean I like the movies but I wouldn’t call myself a fan. (Except for Ironman! I do love me some Robert Downey Jr a la Tony Stark).

This month I received…

  • A full sized Marvel Funko POP figure – I got Captain America. I want to know what the others are. If you got something different or know what they are, please tell me!
  • A comic themed multi-color click pen – So fun!
  • A comic themed zipper pull – not sure what I am going to do with this, but it was a cool idea.
  • Chapter 1 of Afar by Leila del Duca grafic novel – I am not big graphic novel fan but it was neat to flip through.
  • Kafe! Zing coffee candies – anything edible is always perfect for me! Can’t wait to try them!
  • Wonder Woman scented candle – candles are always appreciated as well!

The book received was Eliza and Her Monsters by Francesca Zappia. Prior to my Owlcrate box, I had no idea this book even existed. And before I even read the synopsis, I read the letter from the author. I think those are my favorite part of these boxes. I love hearing why the author wrote their book and what they hope the reader takes from it. I felt so much emotion in this month’s letter, I was sold on the book before I even knew what it was about!

I really love Owlcrate and look forward to my box every month! I am not a rep and I do not have a coupon code…I am just a reader that seriously enjoys the box.

Thanks for reading!

June 2017 TBR

As I previously stated in my May wrap-up post…I am hoping having a list of books to read this month will help me read more. My goal is to read at least one ebook and one book that was on my tbr from before 2016. I am hoping this will help me tackle all of the books I have bought but have not read…so, in turn, I can feel less guilty about buying more books! Without further ado…here is my June TBR!

The Upside of Unrequited by Becky Albertalli

I Heart Paris (I Heart #3) by Lindsey Kelk

Three Dark Crowns (Three Dark Crowns #1) by Kendare Blake

Checkmate: This is Reckless (Drew and Courtney #1) by Kennedy Fox (ebook)

Uglies (Uglies #1) by Scott Westerfeld (pre-2016)

Wish me good luck!!

xoxo

May 2017 Wrap-Up

I am sad to say that this month was rather slow. I read only one book and listened to two audio books. I hope to get thoughts up on them soon, but I really suck at writing my thoughts…c’est la vie!

What I read/listened to….

A Court of Wings and Ruin (ACOTAR #3) by Sarah J. Maas – 5 stars
While this was not as good as ACOMAF and there are some things that I did not like about it, I still overall enjoyed it and can’t believe Feyre and Rhys’ story is over! I am so sad! This trilogy will always hold a special place in my heart!

I Heart New York (I Heart #1) by Lindsey Kelk (audiobook) – 4 stars
Calling all Sophie Kinsella fans! If you have not read this series…put these on your TBR NOW! You won’t be disappointed!

I Heart Hollywood (I Heart #2) by Lindsey Kelk (audiobook)  – 4 stars
Angela Clark is back and in as much drama as ever! I maintain my original statement of all Sophie Kinsella fans need to check this series out!

And that is a wrap! I guess I should probably figure out a TBR for June! I might read more if I have a list to get through!

Thanks for reading!

Down the TBR Hole #5

Goodness! I cannot believe I have kept up with this for 5 weeks! Ok, maybe 6 because I may have missed a week, but still! Anyways, let’s see what I have this week!

10920

Cold Mountain by Charles Frazier
This is the story about a Civil War soldier’s journey back home. As I have read many books since this was added and in turn have learned a little about my reading tastes…I have learned that I don’t particularly like “journey” stories.

Final Verdict: It goes.

12425532

Of Poseidon by Anna Banks
I feel like this could be super cheesy, but it has good reviews. I think my library has this on audio My library has the sequel and the last one…but not the first. What kind of crap is this. Since it is not an audiobook, sadly, I probably won’t read it.

Final Verdict: It goes.

8490112.jpg

Daughter of Smoke and Bone by Laini Taylor
This sounds very interesting and different. I think I could enjoy it, but the hype makes me nervous. I think I want to try it though, because I have heard good things about Laini Taylor. Maybe I will try Strange the Dreamer first? Let me know your thoughts!

Final Verdict: It stays.

17383917

The Screwtape Letters by C.S. Lewis
This is one that I think will make me grow as a person. And it is one that someone I think very highly of has recommended to me. I feel I need to read it for her.

Final Verdict: It stays.

1079914

Rhett Butler’s People by Donald McCaig
I bought this one with intentions of reading it post Gone with the Wind read. However, I have not read GWTW. Maybe one day, when I finally get to GWTW, I will read it. But for now…

Final Verdict: It goes.

7833099.jpg

Fallen by Lauren Kate
Honestly, I am just feeling nothing after reading the synopsis on Goodreads.

Final Verdict: It goes.

Well, 5 is all I am feeling today. So I guess that is a wrap!

Thanks for reading!

My Thoughts and Intentions for this Blog

As promised, here is my follow up to my post about how social media has affected my reading. This one, as the title states, is about how I intend to blog.

First I want to state that I am not a blogger by nature. I really feel like I actually suck at it. I don’t make time like I should and no matter how many times I sit and plan a calendar of posts, I don’t ever follow through with it. With that being said, I am going to provide a disclaimer that I will not be posting regularly. Some weeks I might post everyday and some weeks I might hash out a quick post on Saturday night….and I am 100% okay with this. It is my blog and no matter how many sites or people say “to have a successful blog you need to post consistently multiple times a week” I won’t do it.

Now that my matter of posting is cleared up, I am  doing this for pure enjoyment. I just want a space to spill all of my book related (and sometimes not) thoughts. The moment I stop getting enjoyment out of this, I hereby give myself full permission to cease posting.

My posting intentions are going to range anywhere from a tag, a weekly meme…that I may or may not do every week, or a “review”. I used the quotes around review because I honestly don’t think I am very good at it. I usually just end up ranting or raving about how I liked or disliked a book. Whether I am able to actually able to coherently convey the reasons behind my likes and dislikes have yet to be known to me, but I’ll keep trying. Maybe that part is just something that comes with time and practice.

Basically, what I have figured out is that this is going to become my online book journal. I will post my thoughts and feelings and anything else I feel like. Then one day I can go back and see my thoughts. While I am incredibly appreciative of you reading…because, let’s face it, who would want to read what I have to say…I am doing this for me.

Thank you for reading and I hope you like what you find!

xoxo
